BFI Film Festival : Mediterranea

For another one of our media trips we got another opportunity to got to the BFI Film Festival in Brixton, to see another film and we also got the opportunity to meet the director and writer which was truly amazing. From listening to the director you could see that the story meant a great deal to him and this was due to him living in the place where this was set and also casting people in his film that had lived there all their life, it seemed a very personal story line but also story for him.

Mediterranea is a new 2015 production and it is about two men who journey from Africa to Italy for a better life, however when you see the realisation of what many refugees have to go through you truly do see the violence and struggle that many have to go through to get a better life. Jonas Carpignano the director, released the film on the 20th November 2015 in the USA and on the opening weekend they earned $5,846. This shows that his passion was for the film and it was more about the message then getting the money. Overall I truly enjoyed this film and it brought a lot to the table about the issues that are going on in the world, but it did add a story that you were able to relate to and also characters which allowed you to look closer into it all and think about all the different aspects. Some moment you thought about the struggles and how bad it must have been to go through hell to travel someone you have no idea how its going to go. Powerful film.
