Adele and Jessie J

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born May 5th 1988 in London, she is a British singer and songwriter. She was from a working class background and her mum gave birth to her at just 18 years old.
Adele left public school at 14 years old to attend the BRIT performing school, where musicians like Amy Winehouse attended.
During her time at the BRIT, Adele uploaded 3 demos to her MySpace page, which included her song 'Hometown Glory'. This caught the attention of London record label XL. At 18, 6 months after graduation (2006) she got signed to XL and began her career. From this 'Hometown Glory' was released in October 2007. In January 2008, Adele released her debut album, 19. Shortly after she won the Brit Critic's Choice Award. 19 saw instant success in the UK, debuting at number 1 and helping its single ' Chasing Pavements', reach number 2. In the summer of 2008 she signed a deal with American label Columbia, that's when she saw her popularity and she really gained momentum in the States.
She appeared as a guest on NBC's Saturday Night Live which received 17 million viewers which was the shows best ratings in 14 years. She also went on to win 2 awards in February 2009 which were Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal performance for her song 'Chasing Pavements'.
Her next album was 21, which was relaseased on 24th January 2011.  The most popular songs on her album were 'Rolling in the Deep' and 'Someone like You' which were in the top 5 of the UK singles chart. After her massive success of 19, she took her victory lap in North America, but she was forced to cancel the remainder of her tour in summer of 2011 due to Laryngitis. ALthough it did get better, she had to cancel more due to her vocal chords not recovering properly.
Again even after everything, ‘21’ was again a huge commercial success: it topped the charts in more than 30 countries, was the best-selling album of the 21st Century in the UK, it spent 23 weeks at the top of the UK Albums Chart which is the longest time for a female solo artist and it had sold 30 million copies worldwide by July 2014. February 2012, Adele went on to win six Gammys for 21, this meant she tied with Beyonce for most awards won in a single night. Adele was also named one of Time's 100 Most influential people of the year. Although she hadn't released new music since singing Skyfall for James Bond, she made a big come back On 20th November 2015.

This was the date she released her most recent album '25, but the lead single wasn't released until 23rd October 2015. Hello gained her huge worldwide coverage, and within only 24 hours it had got 27.7 million views on Vevo. She also has received 1,275,301,932 views on youtube, nearly over taking Justin Bieber baby which was posted 6 years ago, and Hello was posted only 4 months ago. This truly shows how the times are changing and these videos are becoming more widespread due to word of mouth and even more social media, which adele has a large following on allowing it to be widely seen.

Jessie J (Jessica Ellen Cornish) was born on 27th March, 1988 in London and she is a British singer and songwriter. She studied at the Brit school between 2004 and 2006 and was in the same year as Adele. She was firstly signed to Gut Records in 2006 but they went bankrupt before she could release anything.
She then however did get herself being in a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, which allowed her to write songs for artists such as Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus. The most known songs that she wrote for artists was 'Party in the USA' for Miley Cyrus.

In 2005 she began to work on her album 'Who You Are', which was completed on the 19th January 2011. While recording the album she also released her first single 'Do It Like A Dude' in late 2010 which reached number 2 on the UK singles chart. Also winning a MOBO award for Best Song. Jessie J's second single Price Tag reached number one on the singles chart. Overall 'Who You Are' was a successful album, it debuted at number 2 on the UK album charts, selling 105,000 copies in the first week and the sales have now reached over 2.5 million worldwide. From this success she landed a job as being a coach on 'The Voice UK' in both 2012 and 2013, which was a singing competition shown on BBC One. It consisted of blind auditions so it is more about 'The Voice' more than the image like in many other shows such as X Factor.

Her next album 'Alive' was released in 2013 and reached number 3 on the UK album chart. From this she went on to release her third album in October 2014 called 'Sweet Talker' which reached number 5 in the charts. 'Bang Bang' led the songs due to the popularity of the trio, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj this allowed a lot of fan bases to come together allowing them to gain popularity.

From the beginning of her career her sexuality had played a part in her fan base, which included a large LGBTQ following. When she first rose to fame she said that she had dated girls and guys and was seen as 'bisexual' so many looked up to this and found comfort in her coming out and saying this, however on Wednesday 9th April 2014 she addressed issues around her saying she no longer likes girls and is straight. This article on glamour showed Jessie J's response to the hate she had been receiving. In this article you understand that she was just being honest about her past but that is truly what drew people to her and also her music but that played a big part. "It was crazy! Instantly I was boxed. But at the same time felt I was put forward as spokesperson to break out of those same boxes? Weird. Who made it a big deal? Me? No. The media? Yes."
This was part of the interview and it really does reiterate the point on the media and the influence it has on so many people. She lost fans and following but she came back in 2015, with her single Flashlight which was produced for Pitch Perfect 2. She is popular on social media but also has done a lot of charity work, due to having struggles of her own in the past.

'Singer revealed she had a heart condition in her 2012 autobiography Nice To Meet You where she explained her father, Stephen Cornish, also suffered from the heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome which means she has an irregular heartbeat"

She did the 2013 Red Nose Day in which she shaved her hair off, she also calls her fans Heartbeats due to her heart condition. Overall these artists came from the same point at some point in their lives but it shows how moments can change your direction completely.
